JK BMS Configuration Guide For Longevity

For long service life from a LiFePO₄ battery pack using a JK BMS, the most important factor is conservative voltage management.

Avoid keeping cells too full or too empty for extended periods, as this significantly accelerates aging and imbalance.

Recommended Daily Voltage Range

Hard Safety Limits

  • Maximum cell voltage: 3.46 V
  • Minimum cell voltage: 2.80 V

Recommended Everyday Operating Range

  • Stay above: 3.00 V per cell
  • Avoid going below: 3.00 V per cell

Below 3.00 V, the LiFePO₄ voltage curve drops steeply. You gain only 2–3% more usable capacity, but greatly increase aging stress and imbalance.

Charge & Discharge Current (C-Rate)

Recommended C-rate for longevity: 0.2C – 0.5C
Higher current increases heat and internal stress, accelerating cell aging even if voltage limits are respected.

JK BMS Settings for Daily Use (Longevity-Focused)

  • Balance Trigger Voltage: 0.010 V (10 mV)
  • Start Balance Voltage: 3.40 V
  • Over-Voltage Protection (OVP): 3.6 V
  • Voltage Cell RCV (Charge Target): 3.46 V
  • SOC 100% Voltage: 3.455 V
  • Over-Voltage Protection Recovery (OVPR): 3.45 V
  • Under-Voltage Recovery (UVPR): 3.00 V
  • SOC-100% Voltage.(V): 2.801
  • Under-Voltage Protection (UVP): 2.80 V
  • Power-Off Voltage: 2.55 – 2.65 V per cell

When Power-Off Voltage is reached, the BMS shuts down completely. No charge or discharge is allowed, and Bluetooth communication will stop.

Key Takeaways

  • Avoid staying at 100% SOC for long periods
  • Avoid deep discharge below 3.00 V
  • Use moderate charge and discharge current
  • Longevity comes from avoiding extremes

Small sacrifices in usable capacity result in significantly longer battery life.
